Middleton Athletic Ladies 2-1 Penrith AFC Ladies

IMG_0674[T]he punishing end of season schedule finally caught up with Penrith AFC Ladies as they seemed heavy legged and off The pace against a lively Middleton Athletic team who were well rested in the lead up to this game. Penrith, in contrast, were playing their 7th game in 21 days, and 6 of these matches had been on the road.

Despite being off the pace Penrith managed to take a 1st half lead when Sarah Smith bundled the ball over the line after good lead up play from Hannah Coulthard.

The longer the game went on the more fatigued Penrith looked and the Middleton pressure was building. Penrith hung on for as long as they could but eventually succumbed to 2 late goals in the final 18 mins of the game.

In the end the result was academic as other results meant that Penrith had consolidated their 3rd place finish in the league. A very notable achievement in a very competitive North West Division 1 (north).
