21st birthday joyrider jailed

A CRIMINAL who went joyriding on a stolen quad bike in the early hours of his 21st birthday has been jailed.

Arron Graham, 21, was seen by police to travel on the machine without either lights or a helmet in dark and wet conditions on 4th February.

Carlisle Crown Court heard that Graham drove the quad through two “no entry” signs and at high speed on several residential roads in the city.

At one point he mounted the pavement and gave chasing officers the slip. He was finally detained a short time later.

Graham was sentenced today (WED) having admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and with no insurance, and handling stolen goods.

A 10-month prison sentence was imposed by Judge Barbara Forrester, who heard no other motorists or pedestrians were involved, nor was any damage caused.

But the judge said: “There was a high level of risk had there been other road users around.”

Graham, of Weardale Road, Carlisle, was also banned from driving for two years.
