Man denies committing alleged child sex offence

[A] MAN accused of a serious sex assault on a child has categorically denied any wrongdoing.

Carlton Robert Taylor, 58, is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court.

He has pleaded not guilty to an alleged offence which is said to have taken place in the Kendal area during the 1980s.

Today (WED), Taylor went into the witness box and gave evidence in his defence.

He told a jury of nine men and three women he became aware that a complaint had made against him when he was interviewed by police. That was in January last year.

Taylor, of Peat Lane, Kendal, was asked by his barrister Andrew Ford whether he had committed the alleged offence.

“No,” he replied.

Taylor went on to insist that he “didn’t even know” the child.

The trial continues.
