Man seriously injured in Barrow attack

[P]olice in Barrow are investigating an assault that has left a male in a serious condition in hospital.

The incident occurred at approximately 11.30pm last night (11th May 2016) on Schooner Street where a male was assaulted by another male.

The victim, a 28-year-old man from Barrow, was taken to Furness General Hospital and his condition is described as serious.

Enquiries have led to an arrest of a 28-year-old man, from Barrow, on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He is currently detained for questioning.

Specially trained officers are supporting the victim’s family at this time as enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Jason McKenna, South Cumbria CID, said: “We have a team of detectives conducting numerous enquiries today. This was a very serious assault leaving a male with severe head injuries.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal for anyone with information to contact us. Any information, no matter how insignificant you may deem it, could assist our investigation.”
