New Kendal brand unveiled

Kendal_Logotype_CMYK[A] new destination brand for Kendal was unveiled tonight (Monday 16th May 2016).

The project was developed by Kendal Futures in partnership with the town’s stakeholders, organisations and businesses, and with funding from Kendal Business Improvement District and South Lakeland District Council.

The new brand for Kendal was created by Cactus Creative who are based at The Factory and aims to promote Kendal as ‘more than a market town’ which has a distinctive offer for visitors, businesses and local people.

The new destination identify reflects Kendal’s heritage of a traditional market town built on the wool trade, that has developed into a diverse cultural hub. The logo is itself inspired by woollen threads being fed on to a loom. It’s a brand of playful patterns and inspiring imagery, full of character and characters.

The launch of the branding for Kendal took place at The MintWorks in the town and was attended by partners and stakeholders as well as festival organisers and design companies who it is hoped will use the brand in future.

Kendal_Minimum_KThe new Kendal brand toolkit is available to download online from, and The toolkit contains logos and the brand guidelines with accompanying fonts, colour palette and sample copy and will shortly be joined by a small image library.

The brand guidelines provide local people with everything they need to start working with Kendal’s destination branding including fonts, icons, colours and an ever-expanding image library as well as guidelines for copywriting to help complete the look and feel of the brand.

Businesses and organisations in Kendal will be encouraged to use the branding and associated positive wording to promote Kendal in their own promotional material and on websites.

Peter Hensman, Chairman of Kendal Futures, said “The Kendal Economic Growth Action Plan identifies the need for Kendal to have a distinctive brand and we were delighted to lead this exciting partnership project. The new Kendal branding will ensure we can all promote Kendal in a more unified and positive way to increase awareness and attract more visitors to benefit our wider economy.”
