[A]llerdale Borough Council last night [Wednesday 18 May 2016] confirmed Celia Tibble, the elected member for Seaton, as its new Mayor.
Councillor Tibble, who is also a County Councillor, will hold the post for the next 12 months.
Celia was born in Workington and attended Workington Grammar School. She is a former police officer who began her career in Yorkshire, where she worked on cases such as the Yorkshire Ripper. After leaving the force, she retrained as a psychiatric nurse. She met her husband Phil, a former ambulance driver who is also an Allerdale Borough Councillor, while working in Yorkshire and they lived there until 1992, when they moved back to Cumbria. Together, she and Phil have three children and six grandchildren.
Celia was the chair of Governors at Stainburn School for many years and also volunteered with the St John’s Ambulance for 30 years. She is also a great supporter of Workington Reds and the Maryport Blues Festival.
Cllr Tibble’s daughter, Beth Dixon, will provide assistance as her Consort. Celia will also be joined at some events by her granddaughter, 11-year-old Molly Tibble. Over the next year, Cllr Tibble shall be raising funds for charities helping children with autism and Allerdale Mind.
At last night’s Mayor Making ceremony Councillor Mary Bainbridge, ward member for Workington St Michael’s, was also installed as Deputy Mayor. Her friend Amanda Potts will be her Consort.
