Penrith Remembers the Somme

[P]enrith Remembers arranged a programme of events in 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the start of World War I. This year it has co-ordinated events that commemorate the battle of the Somme. Below is a programme of these events:

June 7th onwards Lowther Castle 

Temporary exhibition of Lonsdale Pals Battalion and dedication of commemorative garden. See www.lowthercastle.org for info, Lowther Castle.

June 26th 11am – 16:30pm Shap Wells Hotel 

‘Behind the Lines’ Conference, including talks on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, British POWs and WWI Home Guard.

Talk on The Lonsdale Battalion “On the Home Front” – £2 pay on the day. Free access to computers allowing you to trace your family history.
