Kendal Torchlight Carnival to launch Saturday Street Party

kendal torchlight2[T]he Kendal Torchlight Carnival team have announced that 2016 will see the inaugural Kendal Carnival Street Party.

Thanks to support from Kendal BID (Business Improvement District) and Cumbria LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) the Torchlight organising team are this year able to extend the Torchlight Carnival into the next day with the first street party on the afternoon of Saturday 10th September.

The annual procession through Kendal will take place as usual on the evening of Friday 9th September, but for the first time Kendal Torchlight will extend into the next day. On the Saturday afternoon the town centre will be taken over by a host of carnival arts performances and workshops. In addition Lakeland Radio will host a live stage which will feature live music acts and performers, and host the Torchlight Trophy Presentation.

Other confirmed highlights for Saturday include a dance stage supported by Dance Atikk, which will host dance workshops and performances from a variety of local dance groups. Plus carnival arts workshops throughout the town centre featuring mask making, carnival headdress making, ABLAZE carnival troupe and Blue Jam Arts, who will be hosting a samba workshop.

Various other acts and workshops will be announced for the Torchlight Carnival Street Party as we approach the date. To stay up to date, head over to their Facebook Page.

With this years Torchlight theme being “Celebrating Kendal’s Spirit”, this year’s carnival is a fantastic way to build on our strong community spirit. It’s been a difficult year for many people in our town, so what better way is there than to celebrate everything we love about Kendal? Now with even more chances to get involved than ever before!

The 2016 Torchlight Carnival is on Friday 9th September, starting at 7.30pm, with the Carnival Street Party on the afternoon of Saturday 10th September.
