Volunteers are hitting the harbourside to clean up one of Workington’s popular coastal walks – and more help would be very welcome.
Every year, Allerdale Borough Council’s Streetscene team leads special clean-up initiatives of key areas in the town centres, with help from members of the public.
This year, the clean-up is to move to the harbourside on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 June between 10am and 3pm. As well as litter-picking on the shoreline, a large part of the two-day project will involve painting the street furniture, including the seats, railings and capstans.
Members of the Mind in West Cumbria mental health charity, and the Conservation Volunteer Group will be helping out, alongside Allerdale Borough Council officers and Workington Town Council’s grounds maintenance team. The Town Council is also providing refreshments for everyone who takes part.
Charles Holmes, Allerdale Borough Council’s Head of Community Services, said: “The Council’s Streetscene teams do a fantastic job but we know that sometimes specific areas need a bit of extra attention.
“We know people enjoy a harbourside walk, particularly when the sun’s shining, and we saw that this area was looking like it needed a bit of TLC, so we’ll be heading down there on June 15 & 16 to do just that.
“We really want to get as many people down there helping out as possible – and just ask that you let us know in advance so we can order enough refreshments!”
Those who want to help should come suitably dressed – cleaning materials and free refreshments will be provided.
