[A] CONVICTED sex offender who downloaded thousands of illegal child porn images – some featuring babies – has been locked up for more than three years.

Nathan Ramsbottom, 42, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI) after the disturbing still and moving pictures were found on memory cards he had attempted to sell in the city.

At the time, police were already on the lookout for Ramsbottom after he breached the condition of a previous court order imposed for similar crimes. He was said to have gone AWOL from his home in the Scottish Borders for several weeks.

Analysis of the memory cards revealed more than 3,000 illegal images of children – the youngest aged just one.

Several hundred of the photographs were classed in category A – the most serious. In addition, other sick pictures were found on his mobile phone.
Ramsbottom, of High Street, Ecclefechan, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, and one possession offence. At the time he was subject to a previously imposed sexual offences prevention order.

Imposing a 40-month jail term, Judge Peter Davies concluded that Ramsbottom was a “high risk” offender who had shown both a “lack of remorse and an absence of motivation to reform”.

Ramsbottom was made subject to the sex offender notification requirements indefinitely.
