Mind launches mental health helpline for Cumbria

MINDLine Cumbria (Stack Number)_CMYK-C[M]indLine Cumbria was launched this week, the county’s first dedicated mental health helpline.

The five local Mind groups in Cumbria have been providing telephone based information and support to people across the county for over 25 years. In response to increasing numbers of calls they have now launched MindLine Cumbria, a centralised service with extended opening hours.

MindLine Cumbria is there to give practical information about mental health, what services and support are available to you and information about your rights.

MindLine Cumbria will help you talk through your concerns, understand your problems better, explore your options, or just be there to listen when you are feeling distressed, alone or unable to see a way forward. MindLine Cumbria is delivered by trained staff with both excellent knowledge of mental health issues and services available locally.

Chris Wood, Chief Officer of Carlisle Eden Mind said “Although one in four of us experience a mental health problem in any given year, it can still feel hard to talk about your mental health – especially when you’re not feeling well. But it’s important to remember that talking your situation through, exploring your support options or getting some useful information from a trusted person can really help in beginning to get better.”

MindLine Cumbria is also there for people worried about the mental health of a family member, friend, or colleague. MindLine Cumbria’s trained staff will provide practical information and guidance to help you more effectively support the person you care for.

Tara Quinn, MindLine Cumbria Manager said: “Supporting someone with a mental health problem can at times leave us feeling confused and helpless. Sometimes people struggle to know what to say or do to help the person they care for, or are unsure where they can go to get help – but friends, relatives and colleagues are often well placed to provide a source of really valuable support to someone experiencing a mental health problem when given a little support and re-assurance.”

MindLine Cumbria is open Monday to Fridays between 12 midday and 9pm and on Saturdays between 5pm and 9pm and is available through telephone, text and webchat.
