[P]olice are investigating a burglary where £4,500 was stolen from an elderly couple in Kendal.

The burglary occurred at a property on Kentmere Brow at approximately 2pm on 19th July 2016.

One of the occupants discovered a man upstairs in the property after hearing a noise. The suspect, upon being disturbed, quickly made off from the house. Following the incident the couple discovered that money had been stolen from one of the bedrooms.

The suspect has been described as being a white male in his early 30’s, approximately 5ft 8inches tall, of medium build with fair hair. He was wearing a light-coloured top and was holding a small paper medicine bag.

Detective Constable Tom Pearman, of South Cumbria CID, said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed a man matching the description in the area of Kentmere Brow. This was in broad daylight and we hope that someone will have seen something that will help identify the man responsible.

“The money stolen was savings from their pensions and they have been left understandably hurt and shaken by this incident. If anyone has any information please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to DC 2453 Pearman.
