Police probe Carlisle sex attack

[P]olice in Carlisle are investigating a sexual assault that occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning (21st July).

The assault occurred at approximately 2am and police are appealing for information from the public.

The victim, a 34 year old woman from Carlisle, was walking over Victoria Viaduct in Carlisle city centre in the direction of Denton Holme when she came across an unknown male. The man was initially friendly to the woman but when she declined his advances, he sexually assault her.

The male made off from the scene of the assault towards English Street. He is described as being white, aged in his mid-twenties, of slim build and approximately 5ft 7inches. He has dark hair and was wearing a grey hooded top, dark coloured jeans and dark coloured footwear.

Detective Sergeant Cath Pattinson said: “We have a team of detectives and uniformed staff following up numerous lines of enquiries in our attempts to ascertain what has happened and trace the suspect.

“If you saw a man matching this description in city centre area in the early hours of this morning please contact us as your information could help our enquiries into what has occurred.

“The victim was uninjured but is understandably shaken by what has occurred. Specially trained officers are supporting her at this time.”
