[O]n Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their annual show and sale of young handlers lambs, kindly sponsored by The Lake District National Park and Allflex.

Twenty keen and eager young farmers presented their lambs in strong classes in front of our judge Mr William Coulston, Hole House, Pooley Bridge.

Carly Pearson, Newton Reigny was awarded the Inglewood Edge Trophy for her Beltex lamb which went on to sell for £130 purchased by Mr M Bowe on behalf of Cocklakes Farm Shop, Penruddock.

On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,898 prime sheep, comprising of 2,039 prime lambs & 1,859 cast ewes & rams.
A much larger show of lambs were forward on the week with an average of 192p/kg being achieved.

Big lambs were great to sell once again with Suffolk lambs from M/s RW &WL Mounsey, The Luham, Eden Hall achieving £106 for 54kg lambs and £101.50 for 52kg lambs.

Mule lambs were out in much larger numbers with M/s GA & DE Thompson, Howburn topping at 184p/kg for a pen at 39kg.

Cast ewes and rams were good to sell with a monster show forward. Mules and continentals were a sharper trade on the week with many runs of mules regularly £70-£75.

Horned ewes sold to a top of £68 from M/s AG & AL Mackie, Low Wilkinson Farm.
