Police name soldier killed in live firing exercise

[P]olice are now in a position to name the soldier killed in a live firing exercise at a military training area in Otterburn, Northumberland, at around 11.15pm on Monday evening.

He is Conor McPherson, 24, of the Paisley area of Glasgow, in Scotland. Specialist officers are currently supporting his family at this incredibly difficult time.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances behind the incident but at this stage we believe this was a tragic accident and there are no suspicious circumstances.

A joint investigation is underway between police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which is being fully supported by the Ministry of Defence and the British Army.

Connor’s family are devastated by his death and have asked for the media to respect their privacy at this time.
