Celebration of motoring icons continues to expand

Drive & Ride In Day 2, April 2016[A] popular celebration of classic cars and motorbikes returns to the Lakeland Motor Museum this autumn – and this time, the event is being opened up to more recent sports and performance vehicles too.

Owners can celebrate their passion for motoring down the ages with like-minded fans at the Museum’s ever-expanding ‘Drive and Ride-In Day’ on Sunday 11 September 2016. It’s also a great opportunity to introduce a diverse display of classic and vintage styles to a new generation.

The last ‘Drive In Day’ at the Backbarrow attraction in April attracted a record number of more than 140 pre-1990 vehicles to soak up the atmosphere of some iconic styles and motoring memories. There was also an increasing amount of interest from high performance sports cars, superminis and hot hatches from the past two decades – so the Museum has decided to broaden the invitation out to include more recent motoring machines in the fun.

For just two days a year, these special events give visitors to the Motor Museum a chance to combine a visit to the attraction’s collection of more than 30,000 exhibits – including 150 classic cars and motorbikes – with the opportunity to mingle with the owners of some motoring classics spanning more than one hundred years.

With plenty of free parking for vehicle owners to display their pride and joy, and no booking necessary, participating drivers and their passengers can also receive vouchers for half-price admission to the Museum itself.

Chris Lowe, Manager at Lakeland Motor Museum, says, “The fact that the Drive & Ride-in Days are growing in numbers each year is fantastic. September’s event will be a great way for owners not only to show off their most prized possessions, but also to join other motoring enthusiasts in a beautiful riverside location. Of course, there is also the added benefit of viewing the Museum’s ever expanding collection of motoring gems at a discounted price.”

If you don’t have to own a classic vehicle, just simply come along and join in the fun. View the private cars on display, take a visit to the museum or grab some refreshments at the riverside Cafe Ambio. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Vehicles will be welcomed to the ‘Drive and Ride In Day’ from 9.30am-4.30pm on Sunday 11th September.
