Allerdale’s new leisure centre and swimming pool will open to the public at 10am on Saturday 3 September 2016.

The state-of-the-art facility, at Brow Top in the town centre, is a bright, beautiful, modern space, packed with some of the best sports and leisure equipment available in the pools, the gym and the fitness suites.

Councillor Alan Smith, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council, said: “I am so proud that the day is nearly here when we can throw open the doors of this amazing building to the people of Allerdale and beyond. This project has been in the planning for so many years, I cannot wait to see the expressions on visitors’ faces when they see how fantastic the facilities are. This leisure centre would not look out of place in any big city in the land and I think the quality compares to, or even exceeds, what you would find in the private sector. This is a really exciting time.”

Over the opening weekend, GLL, who operate the centre on behalf of Allerdale Borough Council under the Better brand, will be offering taster sessions of sports and activities on a pay-per-visit basis. There will also be one-hour swimming sessions, plus the team from Better will be giving tours of the centre, and answering questions about the activities and clubs on offer.

Normal classes and swimming sessions will recommence on Monday 5 September.

This exciting new attraction will replace the two ageing buildings which house the town’s current swimming pool and sports centre at Moorclose. This centre will close on the evening of Wednesday 31 August to allow the staff to move the final pieces of equipment out of the building and into the new leisure centre before the opening on the Saturday morning.
