The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has three new members following the extension of its boundary to include a small part of Lancashire and a larger part of Cumbria.
The new additions take the total membership of the Authority to 25.
Marcus Johnstone has been appointed by Lancashire County Council where he is cabinet member for planning environment and cultural services. He was first appointed to the cabinet in 2002 and has held a variety of positions including having had responsibility for education and children’s social care.
He represents Padiham at County Hall and is also a member of Burnley Borough Council. A councillor since 1986, Marcus has had a diverse working life and has been employed in journalism, further education and housing.
Valerie Kendall has been appointed by Eden District Council.
Born in Durham City, she now lives in Appleby-in-Westmorland and is an Appleby Town Councillor
From 2007 to 2011, she was a Leeds City Councillor and in 2011 was appointed Hon Alderman of that city. She has also been a school governor at various levels and was deputy executive member for adult health and social care in Leeds.
Margaret Pattison has been appointed by Lancaster City Council where she is a Cabinet member with four portfolios – markets, volunteers, older people and rural areas.
She is vice-chair of the Licensing Regulatory Committee and sits on the Planning Regulatory Committee, Heysham Power Station Community Liaison Committee, Lancaster Volunteers and the Morecambe Rainbow Centre.
In addition, she is vice chair of Morecambe Town Council and of the Police Liaison Committee and sits on the Budget and Performance Committee.
