Carlisle man admits rape charge

A MAN will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court later this year after admitting a charge of rape.

Tony Newlands, 31, entered guilty pleas to three crimes when he appeared before Judge Peter Davies. These were a rape and two sexual assaults, which are said to have occurred between December, 2013, and October, 2015.

A brief court hearing was told that Newlands had also previously pleaded guilty to a host of other sexual offences.

A background report, to be prepared by the probation service, was requested by Judge Davies.

He adjourned the case until 9th November, when Newlands, of Jubilee Road, Carlisle, is set to be sentenced for all of his criminal offending.

In the meantime he was remanded in custody.
