Cockermouth man denies blackmail allegation

[A] MAN is due to go on trial at Carlisle Crown Court later this year after denying an allegation of blackmail.

Barrie Lee, 30, faces five charges relating to alleged offences which are said to have occurred between 30th April and 10th June this year.

Lee appeared at the crown court today (MON) in front of Recorder Kevin Grice.

He pleaded not guilty to blackmail, which relates to an alleged incident on 10th June. In addition he denied putting a person in fear of violence by harassment, one count of assault and also two charges of theft. It is alleged that he stole cash and medication.

All of the charges relate to the same male complainant.

Lee is due to go on trial in early December, and in the meantime he was remanded on bail.

The conditions of his bail are that he must live at Gable Avenue, Cockermouth, and must not contact named prosecution witnesses.
