Enquiries continue after woman dies in Carlisle

[E]nquires are ongoing following the death of a woman in Carlisle earlier today.

Police were called at 6.02am today (15th September) following injuries to woman within a property on Orton Road, Carlisle.

A 33-year-old woman was found in a critical condition and short time later was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is believed to be suspicious at this time.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he has been detained for questioning.

Superintendent Justin Bibby said: “We can confirm that a man is in custody following the death of a 33-year-old woman this morning. The man arrested is known to the victim and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.

“Such incidents are rare in the county and extra officers are in the area to reassure and support the local community.”

The scene is still cordoned off and Orton Road remains open to motorists.
