The results of the by-elections held on 22 September 2016 for the election of a Borough Councillor for Christchurch Ward and a Parish Councillor for Christchurch Parish Ward are as follows:

Results of the election of a Borough Councillor for Christchurch Ward

  • Eric William Atkinson (UK Independence Party – UKIP) 32 votes
  • Joan Lilian Ellis (Labour Party) 324 votes
  • Simon William Nicholson (Conservative and Unionist Party) 206 votes
  • Debbie Michelle Taylor (Liberal Democrats) 234 votes

The number of votes rejected was as follows:

  • Want of an official mark: 0
  • Voting for more Candidates than voter was entitled to: 0
  • Writing or mark by which voter could be identified: 0
  • Being unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty: 4

Vacant seats: 1; Electorate: 2,207; Ballot Papers Issued: 800; Turnout: 36%

Therefore Andrew Seekings, the Returning Officer at the above election, declared that Joan Lilian Ellis is duly elected.

Results of the election of Parish Councillor for Christchurch Parish Ward

  • Michael Victor Bradshaw (No Party Candidate) 138 votes
  • Rebecca Charlotte Hanson (Liberal Democrats) 228 votes
  • Lydia Jane Parlett (Labour Party) 189 votes

The number of votes rejected was as follows:

Want of an official mark: 0

  • Voting for more Candidates than voter was entitled to: 0
  • Writing or mark by which voter could be identified: 0
  • Being unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty: 11

Vacant seats: 1; Electorate: 1,587; Ballot Papers Issued: 566; Turnout: 36%

Therefore Andrew Seekings, the Returning Officer at the above election, declared that Rebecca Charlotte Hanson is duly elected.
