The ‘Grand Day Out’ returns for more fundraising and outdoor fun

grand-day-out[F]ollowing on from the success of the event last January, Grand Day Out returns to Langdale on 14th – 16th October for a whole weekend of fun organised by a group of like-minded residents in the county with the key aim of bringing together people who love our county to have some fun, raise some funds, support local business and aid the recovery following the floods of last winter.

The event will once again be raising funds for the Cumbria Community Foundation. Tom Rumsey, one of the volunteer organisers said: “The first event was proof that people working together for a common cause can create something amazing, we couldn’t wait to organise another one and bring people together once again to celebrate all that is great about Cumbria.”

Tickets are on sale now for all sorts of activities taking place in Langdale over the whole weekend of 14th – 16th October. The events are suitable for anyone and for all the family.

The events include guided fell walks; a ‘Grand Dog Walk’ (in partnership with Ruffwear); two trail runs; a unique uphill fell race (dubbed the ‘Stickle Grind’); mountain bike mystery tours; a family adventure quest; café and pub tours; astronomy and star gazing sessions; talks; music; film screenings; cycle tours; outdoor skills sessions and all sorts more.

To book your tickets visit: www.granddayoutcumbria.org.uk and follow the link to the Langdale event. The hub for the event will be the National Trust managed Sticklebarn Tavern.

More events are being added all the time so simply visit the website to keep an eye on what’s happening.

All of the proceeds raised from these events will go towards the Cumbria Community Foundation and will be used to raise funds for local communities and projects to help build resilience to future flooding events.

The prestigious 5 star Brimstone Hotel (part of the Langdale Estate), who have sponsored a fantastic prize for the winner of the ‘Stickle Grind’ uphill fell race said: “We are proud to be involved with such a Grand day Out and particularly the challenging fell race, there are very few events of this kind in the area and we wish all the racers luck and good speed. We will be there on the day to cheer you all on.”

Grand Day Out is being generously supported by a range of partners which also means we will be able to host both a charity auction and a raffle to raise additional funds. Keep an eye of the website for further details in the coming days or if your business would like to donate.

So, please do come and get involved and take part in this weekend of fun for everyone. Come and enjoy the best of this beautiful valley, sample some top local grub and hospitality and have a few laughs along the way on what promises to be a very special weekend.
