Appeal for witnesses after attempted Workington robbery

[D]etectives investigating a report of an alleged attempted robbery in Workington this morning are appealing for people in the shop at the time to come forward.

A man entered the Premier Stores shop in Moss Bay Road, Workington, at around 6.15am carrying a hammer and demanding money. However, he fled after a member of the public threw coffee at him.

A 34-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and is currently in police custody.

Officers are keen to trace anyone who witnessed the incident, particularly the man who threw the coffee and a second man who was near the counter at the time of the incident.

Anyone who can assist is urged to call Cumbria Police on 101 quoting incident number 32 of today (31 October 2016) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
