Police appeal after Carlisle sex assault

[D]etectives investigating a report of a serious sexual assault in Carlisle in the early hours of Saturday morning (5 November, 2016) are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The assault is believed to have taken place off Botchergate in the car park of the English Gate Plaza, at the rear of the Ibis Hotel in Carlisle.

One man, aged 27 and from the Carlisle area, has been arrested in connection with this incident. He is currently in police custody.

Det Insp Neil Cooper said: “We obviously take offences of this nature extremely seriously and have been working round the clock since the incident was reported, gathering evidence and supporting the victim.

“However, it is important that we hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious and has yet to come forward.

“Anyone with information which could help is urged to call 101 immediately.”

Officers are appealing for anyone in the area between 3.30am and 5.30am who may have information to get in touch by calling 101 quoting incident number 33 of 5 November 2016. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
