Four hurt in A596 Maryport crash

maryport-rtc-cop-van[T]he A596 at Glasson Industrial Estate, Maryport, is closed while emergency services deal with a road traffic collision, which involved a police vehicle.

The three vehicle collision occurred at around 12:20pm today (11th November 2016) at the junction to Hutton Place, and involved:

  • A marked police vehicle driven by a male officer (minor injuries)
  • A red Ford S-Max driven by a 72-year-old man from Dearham (taken to West Cumberland Hospital with minor injuries), with a 67-year-old female passenger from Dearham (taken to West Cumberland Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious at this time)
  • A grey Vauxhall Mokka driven by a 61-year-old man from Maryport (minor injuries)

A barrier was damaged in the collision.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 12:21 firefighters were called to a three vehicle road traffic collision on Glasson Industrial Estate, Maryport.

“No one was trapped in the vehicles and paramedics attended to deal with four casualties.”

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

A full investigation into the collision will take place – if anyone witnessed the collision they are asked to ring Cumbria Police on 101 and quote log number 80 of 11th November.
