Man arrested in Carlisle sex attack probe

Officers investigating a report of a serious sexual assault in Carlisle in the early hours of Saturday morning (5th November 2016) have made another arrest.

The alleged assault is believed to have taken place off Botchergate in the car park of the English Gate Plaza, at the rear of the Ibis Hotel in Carlisle.

The man from Carlisle arrested on Monday has been released without any further action. A further male, aged 30, from Newcastle, has been arrested and released on bail.

Officers are continuing to appeal for information from anyone who was in the area between 1am and 5.30am who may have witnessed anything suspicious.

Anyone with information should call Cumbria Police on 101 quoting incident number 33 of 5th November 2016, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
