Man seriously injured in Workington attack

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Workington on Saturday evening (12 November) are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The assault took place outside Trades Hall Social Club in Brow Top, Workington, at around 7.45pm.

A man in his 50s was knocked unconscious and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary at Newcastle where he remains, having yet to regain consciousness.

Three men – two aged 18 and one aged 20 – have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident. They remain in police custody today (14 Nov).

However, officers are aware there are a number of witnesses to this incident who remain outstanding and are appealing for those people to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy Ledingham said: “There were a number of people at the scene of the assault who will have important information which will assist with our investigation.

“We are urging anyone who saw what happened and is yet to come forward or anyone who has information which might assist to contact us immediately.”
