[D]rivers that use the multi-storey car park at South Lakeland House in Kendal are being advised that the car park will be closing earlier with immediate effect.

The lower levels of the car park, which is operated by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), will be closing at 6.30pm until further notice.

This is in response to continued levels of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the car park.

Damage has been caused to lighting units and parked vehicles, there is evidence of drug and alcohol use in the car park and there have been incidents of SLDC staff and car park customers being intimidated.

The incidents have been reported to police and officers are investigating the complaints.

The top (open) level of the car park will continue to remain open later, but the two lower levels will be locked at 6.30pm instead of 8pm. The car park will be re-opened at 7am.

Leaflets have been left on cars using the car park today (Wednesday) informing drivers about the changes to the closing times.
