Penrith’s FA Womens Cup adventure came to shattering end on Sunday when they were outclassed by a very good Norton team.
Right from the kick off Norton took control and were dominating the possession. Penrith had to work hard to try and contain their free flowing play.
Frustratingly for Penrith, when the deadlock was finally broken in the 23rd min, it resulted from a lack of concentration which allowed the Norton striker far too much room from a throw in and she turned into the space and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Poor organisation from a short corner allowed Norton to double their lead before half time and left Penrith with a mountain to climb.
Penrith came out fighting in the 2nd half and had their best spell of the game with both Sarah Smith and Heather Fawkes going close. But there was to be no way back and in the 65th Norton made the game safe with a 3rd goal.
In the dying seconds Norton made it 4-0 with a further goal from a corner.
Despite the defeat Manager Simon Savage praised his Penrith team for their achievements in this seasons FA Womens Cup. He said “We are disappointed to go out of the cup but making it to the 4th Qualifying round is a good achievement and we have enjoyed every second of it”.
This Sunday Penrith return to league action with a tough trip to Workington Reds.
