Carlisle child porn man sentenced for flouting court order

[A] MAN has been sentenced for breaching a court order he was given for a string of child porn crimes.

Darren McGuinness, 42, was made subject to a sexual offences prevention order by a judge in 2011. This was part of the punishment he received after admitting 11 charges of possessing child pornography.

But on successive dates, in September this year, McGuinness was found to have flouted the order.

Police found he had been accessing the internet on a mobile phone which was not fitted – as it should have been – with approved monitoring software.

McGuinness pleaded guilty to the breaches and was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI).

After hearing that “structured work” in the community would benefit the defendant, Judge Peter Hughes QC imposed a four-month prison sentence which he suspended for two years.

McGuinness, of Fairfield Gardens, Carlisle, was ordered to comply with a 30-day rehabilitation requirement. He must also complete 100 hours’ unpaid work, and pay £500 court costs.
