[U]KIP Leader Paul Nuttall has forecast that 2017 could bring about even more upheaval than last year.
In his New Year message, Mr Nuttall, North West MEP, spoke of last year as one in which “the ordinary people, the little people, have kicked back against the liberal establishment that’s ruled over their lives for so many years.
“Working class communities in this country went out in their droves and voted for Brexit.”
Speaking from his home town of Liverpool Mr Nuttall said that it was a significant location as the River Mersey was once the gateway to global trade for this country.
“We now have the opportunity as a result of that momentous vote on June 23 to reignite our trade links all over the globe. But we will only do that if we get real Brexit, clean Brexit.
“The kind of Brexit my party will campaign on, that is a Brexit whereby we control our own borders. It’s a Brexit whereby we make the legislation at Westminster, it’s a Brexit whereby we don’t pay a membership fee into the European Union. And only UKIP is committed to clean Brexit.
“We will also continue to campaign on the issues the other parties don’t want to touch. We will campaign for fair but firm immigration controls, we will campaign to slash the foreign aid budget and ensure that British taxpayers’ money is spent here in our country.
“We will campaign to ensure that the National Health Service is a national health service and not an international health service. We will become the party of law and order, the party of zero tolerance.”
Mr Nuttall said that UKIP has great opportunities in 2017 including by-elections and local elections to move UKIP forward. “I genuinely believe that the future is bright.”
