Firefighters tackle Welton barn blaze

[A]t 6:40am today, Sunday 8 January firefighters were called to a report of a fire at Steadmans Atwarnell, Roundhill in Welton Village.

When they arrived crews found that the incident involved a barn.

Main water and hose reel jets were used to tackle the fire.

There were five fire engines at the scene and some are likely to be there for some time.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews remain at the scene damping down the scene of the fire which was in a brick built barn.

“Firefighters managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from causing significant damage to those buildings surrounding the barn.

“The number of fire engines at the scene has now been reduced but crews are still likely to be there for some time yet.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been investigated.”
