Gifted former students from St Benedict’s Catholic High School have returned for a special evening to celebrate their A-Level successes and time spent at the Sixth Form Centre.
A special awards ceremony was held on Thursday 5th January, with fifty students returning with their parents and families to pick up their A-Level certificates, along with some very special awards.
Ian Smith, Head teacher at St Benedict’s said: “It is important that we come together as a school community to celebrate these successes, which will undoubtedly pave the way to a better future for our young people.
“We are very proud of our students and we hope that by rewarding students past and present, it will leave them with fond and lasting memories of their time in our Sixth Form.”
The ceremony showcased the high achieving students who received their A-Levels in the summer of 2016 by handing out individual awards alongside the A-Level certificates.
Awards handed out covered Academic Excellence; Outstanding Progress and Outstanding Effort & Contribution in all subjects, as well as individual awards for Outstanding Dedication to their studies, and Outstanding Achievement in A-Levels.
Willie Slavin, Chair of Governors at the school, was also in attendance: “I am always very proud to attend these events, and celebrate what our students have achieved. It is a credit to the students, and the staff at the Sixth Form Centre that so many have been recognised in this way, and we wish them all the best for their futures.”
The Furniture Makers’ Company sponsored the award for best piece of furniture produced in A-Level Product Design, and local company Lamont Pridmore sponsored the Business Studies Student of the Year Award.
Sheena Kar, Director of Learning at the Sixth Form comments: “I was delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students. They were an exceptional year group and it’s fantastic to see so many of them coming back to receive their A level certificates and also individual awards. I am very proud of the hard work of our students and congratulate all of them on their achievements.”
