[O]n Saturday the 25th of February Penrith Canoe Club attended the last of the National Division 4 North Canoe Polo tournaments at Cheadle in Manchester.
With a strong team consisting Hilary Clarke, Jack Dunn, Chris Archer, Dan Farley and Katie Farley they had a very successful night, winning all games and claiming the top spot in the league, automatically moving them up to National Division 3 for next season.
This is the first time a team from Penrith Canoe Club have been promoted up a national league and is a major milestone for the club. This would not have been possible without all of the support from local sponsors and grants from Sport England, the Lake District National Park and British Canoeing. Out of 16 matches in total against teams from all over the North, Penrith only lost 1 game and had 1 draw, which in itself is an achievement.
The success on the night began with the first game against Viking, Penrith won 6 – 3 with goals from: Chris Archer, Jack Dunn and Katie Farley getting the first hat trick of the night.
The second game was against White Rose with a 6 – 1 win to Penrith with goals from: Katie Farley, Chris Archer, Dan Farley and Jack Dunn getting the second hat trick of the night.
The third game was the team’s closest with a win of 2 – 1 against Tees Tigers with goals from: Katie Farley and Jack Dunn.
The final game was against Trentham which was a 6 – 2 win for Penrith, with goals from: Jack Dunn, Katie Farley and Chris Archer who got the final hat trick of the night.
Overall it was a great night and the team look forward to playing next season in Division 3.
