[D]uring the summer two local men will be taking part in a 60 mile walk from Kendal to Carlisle in aid of Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and Eden Valley Hospice.
On Friday 14 and Saturday 15 July Kev Edgar and Tim Maleney will be walking the 60 mile Miller’s Way to help the care, support and activities provided by the local charity.
Kev explains, “I have chose to support Jigsaw and Eden Valley Hospice as it is a local charity and we wanted to do something to support the local area, especially for children as well. My cousin in Canada has Leukaemia and was cared by a charity over there so I tried to choose a similar local charity.
“This will be my second walk like this as I walked the length of the Eden Valley raising money for the Rainbow Trust. I came across the Miller’s Way as it finishes in Carlisle.”
The Miller’s Way was created by Carr’s Breadmakers to commemorate the company’s 175th anniversary, it’s based on the original journey made by Quaker Miller Jonathan Dodgson Carr, who founded the Carr’s flour, bread and biscuit dynasty in Carlisle in 1831 after leaving his home town of Kendal.
The two day picturesque walk will take Kev and Tim from Kendal to Carlisle via Penrith. During the walk they will pass Lowther Castle and Shap Abbey as well as taking in Shap Fell, the Pennines and the Eden Valley.
Tim added, “I am looking forward to just finishing, a pint when we finish and of course the beautiful Cumbrian scenery. Kev explained that it is a nice but emotional feeling to finish a walk like this even though you are hurting all over. Hopefully we won’t get any blisters either.”
The money raised by Kev and Tim will help Jigsaw and Eden Valley Hospice to provide care, support and activities to children and adults with life limiting illnesses. This care and compassion is extended to all of the patients families, friends and carers. If you would like to sponsor Kev and Tim please visit https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/kevandtim60
Year on year it costs Jigsaw and Eden Valley Hospice £3.7million to provide the care, support and activities to local people. Approximately 28% of the funding is received from the NHS with the remaining £2.7million raised by the kindness, support and generosity of the local community.
