[P]rism Arts is delighted to announce it’s free Youth Theatre Programme for children and young people with learning disabilities.  The sessions will take place during the Easter and Summer holidays, thanks to funding from Children in Need and Carlisle City Council.

Prism Arts has provided successful Youth Theatre Summer Schools for the past three years. This year thanks to funding from Children in Need they are able to extend the popular summer school over the Easter holidays and Saturday mornings. Sessions start on the 11th April during the Easter Holidays and end on the 26th August.  Ideally Youth Theatre Members should attend all sessions, if you are unable to, just let us Prism Arts know.

Previous Summer School programmes have proven very successful, with the groups creating and delivering wonderful productions, while learning and working together as a group. The sessions will be led by our team of experienced professional theatre practitioners to ensure that the Youth Theatre Members work in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

“This week has been a great achievement, the process has been fascinating. The group trusted each other and engaged well with each other” – Parent

“Brand new experience for her [her daughter], really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. She felt as if everyone was friendly and there was a warmth within the group.” – Parent

The Youth Theatre programme will give participants an opportunity to learn the skills to develop and perform a theatre production. They will work closely with professional theatre practitioners to create a story which they will then perform.

Their production will be performed as part of the always impressive Carlisle Puppet Pageant on the 26th August 2017.

Prism Arts will be running 2 short introductory sessions on Saturday 18th March at 10 -11am and 11.30 – 12.30pm.  This will give people a chance to meet the team and learn more about the programme. Booking is essential for the sessions and parents/guardians will be required to stay during the whole session.

The Youth Theatre programme is limited to 12 people with learning disabilities aged between 10 and 19 years old.
