Police warn south Cumbria salon owners after fraudsters target three businesses

[P]olice are sending a warning to salon owners after three similar incidents in Barrow today.

Three salons in the town have today (March 22nd) received calls from a male with an Asian / Manchester accent, who has asked to buy a number of high-end straighteners and products.

The male has attempted to purchase the items using fraudulently obtained credit card details, stating that someone will collect the items later.

When the sale has been refused or questioned, the male caller has been abusive, leaving staff feeling scared and threatened.

Police are asking that any salon owners or workers get in touch with police on 101 if found in these circumstances, or if they have been offered such items for sale. Salons are advised not to accept over-the-phone sales in these circumstances.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
