Penrith Ladies Grind Out Victory

Preston nat freekick[T]he bright spring sunshine made a pleasant change at Frenchfield however as it dried the ground it left a bobbly surface difficult to play attractive football on. Both teams struggled to come to terms with the testing surface resulting in a battle of attrition.

Penrith took the upperhand in the early stages of the game but were struggling the break down a stubborn Preston defence.

Penrith eventually made the breakthrough on 25 mins when Nat Broad played a one-two with Chez Brierley before Broad slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.

Penrith made it 2-0 on 30 mins when Paige Williams long throw-in was inadvertently headed into her own goals by a Preston defender.

Confidence was now growing in the Penrith team and they extended their lead on 35 mins when Broad curled in a free kick from 22 meters.

Broad then completed a 13 minute hat trick when she fired in to the top corner from 30 meters.

Ht 4-0

Into the 2nd half the game became somewhat stretched as the hot temperatures took their toll.

Preston got a goal back from a well taken free kick.

preston JessPenrith restored their advantage when Jess Nelson’s shot was well saved by the Preston keeper but Tasha Scott followed in to finish the loose ball.

Penrith claimed the valuable 3 points that takes them 1 step closer in their quest for the North West Div 1(North) title.

This Sunday Penrith AFC Ladies face a tough trip to face Kendal Town Ladies knowing that victory would seal the League title.
