Carlisle Magistrates Court

After a stabbing incident took place at an address in Workington on Friday March 24, an 18-year-old man appeared from police custody at Carlisle magistrates court.

Jonathan Graham Winstanley of Firth View, Walk, Workington, is charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

The court was told he had went to his parents home also on Firth View Walk and was in an agitated state, a friend was telephoned to come round and help calm him down. However when the friend arrived it is alleged that there was an argument and Winstanley went into the kitchen and came back with a large “kitchen knife”.

The victim suffered stab wounds which caused serious injuries and was taken to the critical-care-unit at Preston Hospital, the court was told the injuries sustained were not thought to be life-threatening.

No plea was entered today (Mon) and Winstanley was remanded into custody to next appear before a Judge at Carlisle Crown Court on April 24.
