[C]umbrian family businesses are invited to a guided tour around Barrow-based engineering firm SN Group on 26th April as part of Cumbria Family Business Network’s latest on-site Insight events.

SN Group forms a key part of the supply chain of manufacturing and engineering businesses in the Furness peninsula and MD Anthony Keen will talk candidly about this second generation family business as well as his links with Cumbria Community Foundation. Anthony left Centrica in 2011 to take over his father’s companies Scurrah Nassau and St Andrews Engineering which was established in 1935.

“It’s a different world the family business thing. I had a long career in Centrica before coming back into the family business, which has been a real eye opener. Working in a family business is uniquely challenging and rewarding. I’m glad I made the change, especially as I am able to instigate change quickly; both in the business but also in supporting the local community ” said Anthony Keen

Sue Coulson of Coulson Associates and founder of Cumbria Family Business Network says “These Insight events help share best practice between family businesses in a safe and enlightening environment, allowing family businesses to learn from their peers. They are always an enjoyable event and continue to provide invaluable support for Cumbrian family businesses.”

Established in 1935 Scurrah Nassau undertakes major contracts for companies in all industry sectors including Shipbuilding, Oil and Gas, Power Generation, Nuclear and Construction. MD Anthony Keen has driven the business forward dramatically over the last five years, forging strong relationships with businesses ranging from BAE and MOD to regional construction firms.

Anthony rebranded the businesses to become SN Group and acquired Sub-Tech systems in 2013 and Ropax in 2014 as part of his competitive growth plan. SN Group has also worked hard to forge strong links with the local community and works closely with Cumbria Community Foundation to help them achieve this. Andy Beeforth OBE Chief Executive of the Foundation will be present and discussing their connection and involvement with Anthony and the Group.
