[P]enrith ladies Canoe Polo Team played their final tournament of the season last weekend, playing with a reduced team of only 4 players, but still still held their own against some strong opposition.

The team took a bit of settling into their new roles in the first game against Liverpool and with a strong opposing side they ended the game with a 3-6 defeat. Goal scorers: Lucy Mather, Caitlin Fox and Hilary Clarke. They then went on to play a less experienced Sheffield Hallam team and putting the first game behind them, they improved their formation and effected a well fought 8-0 victory. Caitlin Fox had a superb match scoring 5 of the 8 goals.

The other goal scorer was Hilary Clarke with 3. Building momentum, the team then continued their success beating a stronger Manchester side 6-2, with goals from Jenny Mather, Caitlin Fox and Hilary Clarke.

Their final match was closely fought against local rivals Lancaster Red Rose. Penrith showed good teamwork, a strong defence and a co-ordinated attack. They matched Red Rose goal for goal in the first half, but were narrowly defeated 5-6 in the last few moments. Penrith goal scorers: Lucy

Mather, Jenny Mather, Caitlin Fox & Hilary Clarke.

After this last tournament of the season, Penrith finished 2nd in the league. An excellent first season for the ladies team.
