[A] MAN who attacked his ex-partner, leaving her face cut, bruised and swollen, has been jailed for 30 months.

David Robertson, 29, pushed his way into Anoushka Birkett’s Whitehaven home at 4am on February 21 before subjecting her to a sustained assault.

He repeatedly slapped Miss Birkett, kicked her and also struck her in the forehead with her phone, which broke into pieces.

Carlisle Crown Court heard Robertson also delivered a punch to the face and “told her he was going to put a knife through her throat”.

A terrified Miss Birkett eventually fled to the home of a neighbour. She was bleeding from a cut under her eye, was “extremely bruised and swollen”, and “crying hysterically”.

Robertson was sentenced today (THURS) having admitted an actual bodily harm assault and flouting a court order which prohibited him from contacting his ex.

He was jailed by Judge Barbara Forrester, who heard it was the second breach of the order. “This was a sustained and repeated attack that led to serious facial injuries,” the judge told Robertson, of Wasdale Close, Whitehaven.
