[K]ate Shawcross, Employment solicitor in the Kendal office of regional law firm Napthens, has been appointed to the board of a well-known cancer charity.
Kate has taken up the role with CancerCare, an independent charity dedicated to helping families affected by cancer and other life-limiting conditions, living in the North Lancashire, South Lakeland and Barrow areas.
The charity has been providing services at the Oncology Ward at Furness General Hospital for a number of years, but additional funding from the Sir John Fisher Foundation has helped it expand to new community venues.
The latest expansion will see a therapy room opened at the Trinity Church Centre on Abbey Road in Barrow on Friday, April 28.
In her role on the board, Kate will bring her expertise in employment law to the board, advising on a range of issues affecting staff at the organisation.
Kate said: “CancerCare carries out vital work in the region and it’s a real honour to be appointed to the board and to play a small role in the organisation’s work and its plans for the future.”
Neil Townsend, chief executive officer of CancerCare, said: “As a local charity, working exclusively in North Lancashire and South Lakeland, the effective governance of the charity is key to our continued success.
“As chief executive I welcome Kate, who joins an exceptionally talented and committed board who are helping lead CancerCare and continue to develop services that are needed in our local communities.”
