[T]WO brothers have been jailed after one deliberately started a fire and the other tried to cover up his involvement in that crime.
Carlisle Crown Court heard Christopher Evans, 21, was motivated by revenge” when he ignited a trailer at Harold’s Tyres in Penrith on February 5.
The blaze was contained by firefighters before it became a “protracted incident”, and did not spread to tyres or nearby buildings. However, it caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The trailer belonged to the partner of Evans’s ex-girlfriend. The court heard she had made efforts to report him to police several days earlier for driving without a licence.
Evans, of Greystoke Park Road, Penrith, was jailed for 27 months today (THURS) after admitting an arson charge.
His 24-year-old brother, Scott Evans, was also locked up by Judge Peter Hughes QC, for six months. He admitted perverting the course of justice by binning a jumper Christopher had been wearing, and lying to police in a statement.
