[L]ocal band Soul Survivors put a spring in the step of those at a sell-out Spring Dance at Hawcoat Park Social Club, Barrow, which raised nearly £5,000 for the Bayb’s Maternity Appeal.
The dance, which also had a pie and peas supper, a raffle and an auction that had a double star lot giving two bidders the chance to each have a luxury Mercedes for a weekend, courtesy of Ulverston’s Marshall Mercedes-Benz of South Lakes, was organised by Bayb’s co-ordinator Heidi Bowron.
Heidi said: “A sign of a successful dance is how packed the dance floor is and when the Soul Survivors were playing, it was constantly full. I have received many phone calls and text messages saying what an enjoyable evening it was. I don’t think you could fault anything. The band was fantastic, the catering really good and thanks to those who donated prizes for the raffle and auction and to Bender UK Ltd, the event’s sponsor, I don’t think it could have gone better.”
Ulverston-based electrical safety specialist Bender UK Ltd’s sponsorship of the dance enabled all money raised by ticket sales to go directly into the appeal’s coffers rather than to cover room hire and other costs.
The Bayb’s Maternity Appeal, which currently stands at over £50,000, has an ambitious £250,000 target for a catalogue of “little extras” to help give newborns born at Furness General Hospital’s £12 million maternity unit, which is currently under construction, and their families the best start in life. It is seeking to make the new unit among the best equipped and most comfortable in the country.
