[T]he distinctive landscape, wildlife and communities of the Yorkshire Dales will be brought into focus through a photography competition which aims to find some of the very best images that showcase the Yorkshire Dales throughout the seasons.

Local charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) has teamed up with holiday cottage specialist Yorkshire Cottages for the fifth year running to find photographs that celebrate the beauty and character of the Yorkshire Dales.

Drew Dunn, director of Yorkshire Cottages said: “Since 2006 we have been proud to support YDMT and a range of projects that benefit this special area. With its rugged hills, dry stone walls, ancient woodland, waterfalls, wildlife, rich cultural heritage and picturesque towns and villages, the Yorkshire Dales has it all, and continues to be as popular as ever with our customers. Our joint photo competition has become an annual tradition and we are delighted to facilitate this again: it’s a great showcase for the Dales.”

The competition will be judged by Steve Finch, a professional local photographer and long-standing supporter of the charity.

Steve said: “I never tire of this fantastic landscape which has provided inspiration for my own photography for many years. Although judging last year was very tricky with 500 entries to choose from, it’s a pleasure to have been asked once again to be involved in this competition. I’m looking forward to seeing the Yorkshire Dales in a new light through the competition.”

The winning photographer will receive a hamper of local produce, whilst the runner-up will scoop tickets to a Yorkshire Dales attraction.

Lindsay Wallace, Marketing Officer at YDMT, added: “In addition to selecting an overall winner and runner-up, we’ll also be choosing some of our favourite images to feature in our 2018 Yorkshire Dales charity calendar. If you’re a budding photographer with a love of the Yorkshire Dales, we’d like to invite you to enter our competition and share some of your favourite views with us.”

For the fifth year running, Skipton-based web and design agency Fever Digital will be designing the calendar free of charge as part of their wish to help support the Yorkshire Dales.

The calendar will go on sale in August and all money raised will help to support YDMT’s work sustaining the landscape, environment and communities of the Yorkshire Dales.

Photos should be submitted via the Yorkshire Cottages or YDMT Facebook pages before midnight on 19 May 2017.
