Carlisle City Council By-Elections Results

Carlisle Castle[B]elle Vue and Yewdale Ward Carlisle City Council By Elections were held on Thursday, 4 May.

The results are as follows:

Belle Vue By-Election

Candidates and votes cast

Pamela Birks (The Labour Party): 775 votes cast

Rob Currie (The Conservative Party): 771 votes cast

Susan Riley (UK Independence Party): 116 votes cast

Spoilt votes: 3

Total number of votes cast: 1665

The turnout was 35.6%

Pamela Birks (The Labour Party) was duly elected as the City Councillor for Belle Vue.

Yewdale By-Election

Candidates and votes cast

Jeff Coates (Liberal Democrat): 152 votes cast

Malcolm Fraser Craik (UK Independence Party): 92 votes cast

Christina Finlayson (The Conservative Party): 931 votes cast

Graham David (The Labour Party): 792 votes cast

Spoilt votes: 5

Total number of votes cast: 1972

The turnout was 43.9%

Christina Finlayson (The Conservative Party) was duly elected as the City Councillor for Yewdale.

Following the By-Election, the composition of the Council is as follows: 26 Labour Councillors, 21 Conservative Councillors, 4 Independents and 1 Liberal Democrat Councillor.
