[A] MAN who punched a 60-year-old woman and then dragged her from a car has been spared immediate prison.
Michael Hutchinson, 26, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (TUES) for his violent conduct towards Susan Coultard and her daughter, Karan, as they sat in a vehicle.
Hutchinson admitted a charge of affray following an incident at the city’s Partridge Place, off Wigton Road, on June 30 last year.
The father-of-two punched Susan Coultard in the shoulder before dragging her from the car and then along the ground. She suffered a broken finger.
Hutchinson, of Nelson Street, Carlisle, was described as “very remorseful and sorry” for conduct which was said to have followed previous disagreements about dogs owned by the respective parties.
A nine-month prison sentence was suspended for two years by Judge Peter Davies.
Hutchinson was ordered to complete 180 hours’ unpaid work, and must pay £600 compensation to Mrs Coultard.
Judge Davies told him of the incident: “That is not the way to behave.”
