Party in the Park welcomes international visitors to celebrate 20 years of friendship with French Town

Twinning Photo to accompany PR[W]orkington will be welcoming some very special guests next week from its twin towns of Val de Reuil, France and Selm, Germany.

The guests will be attending Party in the Park on Saturday 27 May 2017. The 1 day festival takes place in Vulcan Park, Workington and is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the twinning between Workington and the French town of Val de Reuil. The guests will also be attending the Mayor Making Ceremony in the Carnegie Theatre at 7pm on Friday 26th May 2017.

Many people and organisations from Workington and surrounding areas have been able to visit Val De Reuil over the last twenty years.  In turn there have been many visitors from the French town into Workington.

Barbara Cannon, Chair of Workington & District Twinning Association, commented; “We’re delighted to be celebrating this very special occasion alongside our friends from France and Germany.  For me it has been an enormous privilege to meet with people from this community, to get to know them and be able to show them our area. This weekend (20 & 21 May 2017) we mark the 20th anniversary of signing the charter which brought our two towns together and although the UK will be ending its relationship with the European Union its mutual friendship with Val de Reuil and Selm will continue into the future.”

Party in the Park is a FREE event for the whole community.  It will have an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the day including live music on the vintage Melodrome stage, a fun fair, a market with over 30 local businesses, free children’s activities, live comedy and theatre performances by internationally respected touring companies.
